Intelligent infrastructure automation

Semester 3 covers the different aspects of intelligent automation of the infrastructure. Due to the size and diversity of the various systems and software in the context of manageability, it is necessary to master this from a well-organized point. This semester approaches orchestration from 6 different focus areas:

Focus area 1: Orchestration

Orchestration is the automated configuration, coordination, and management of computer systems and software.

Focus area 2: Network orchestration

Network Orchestration, also known as Software-defined networking (SDN) Orchestration is the process of automatically programming the behaviour of the network so that the network smoothly coordinates with the hardware and the software elements to further support applications and services.

Focus area 3: Automation

Automation, generally speaking, means completing a single task or function without human intervention. In the context of this semester, automation covers the creation and configuration of scripts (playbooks) to make orchestration possible.

Focus area 4: Security incident & event management

Security Incident and Event Management is a security management approach, which combines functions of Security Information Management (SIM) and Security Event Management (SEM) to define a sound security management system. While SIM focuses on automating the collection of log data, events, and flows from security devices on a network, SEM is all about real-time monitoring and alerts. These make SIEM as a blend of real-time collection and analysis of security alerts and correlation of events to deduce it to detect incidents and malicious patterns of behaviours.

Focus area 5: Monitoring

Monitoring is a service where system engineers monitor the infrastructure proactively.

Focus area 6: Supporting services

Supporting services in the context of this semester are the services and business processes required to make the intelligent infrastructure automation possible.

Learning outcome 1:

You have shown that you can create a process and choose the right tools that coordinate the installation, configuration, and deployment of applications in an infrastructure (orchestration).

Learning outcome 2:

You have shown that you can create a process and choose the right tools that coordinate the topology of the network in an infrastructure (network orchestration).

Learning outcome 3:

You can develop the code to install, manage, and configure systems and networks (automation - deploying) .

Learning outcome 4:

You have demonstrated, using tools, that you can monitor an infrastructure on vulnerabilities (Security Incident & Event Management).

Learning outcome 5:

You can organize the (automated) processes in such a way as to create support services.

You collect and interpret relevant data intending to form a judgment and make proper considerations for the infrastructure (monitoring) .

You can exchange information and express feelings to create understanding.

Learning outcome 8ad:

You further investigate your chosen job profile, how you distinguish yourself from others in the same job profile, and demonstrate this in a product.

You can analyze practical issues and specify solutions and implement appropriate solutions.

You can select theories and methods from the field and apply them to issues from a current professional context.

You can work together in a team or manage an operational team to get a joint result.

Learning outcome 7 Bachelor Degree only (bc):

You can explore the organizational context of ICT assignments, make business, sustainable and ethical considerations, and manage all aspects of the execution of the assignment.

Learning outcome 8bc:

You are enterprising around ICT assignments and personal development, paying attention to your learning skills and keeping in mind what kind of ICT professional and/or what type of functions you aspire to.

Learning outcome 9bc:

You can consider ICT assignments critically from different perspectives, identify problems, find an effective approach, and come to suitable solutions.

Learning outcome 10bc:

You can determine which partners play a role in the ICT assignment, work constructively with them, and communicate appropriately focused on the desired impact.
